West Street also plays host to two of Dorking town’s annual festivals.
The summer Festival of Art & Antiques makes the most of a balmy evening.


Dorking’s West Street Association’s Annual Summer Festival on July 4th In Aid of Brigitte Trust
Dorking’s West Street will be holding its Annual Summer Festival this year on July 4th. American Independence day. The West Street traders, renowned for their hospitality and events and following their hugely successful winter festival last November have again joined up with Brigitte Trust to offer the public a memorable day with all proceeds going to the local charity.

Historic West Street, with its eclectic mix of Antique and fine period furniture shops, restaurants, cafes, public houses, boutiques, fabric shops and the top quality cycle shop Head for the Hills will be staging a fabulous and magical day for all the family, be they young or old.
The entertainment will include an eighteen piece steel band playing from 2pm in the grounds of the United Reform Church located in the centre of West Street where cream teas will be available. Cheer leaders, strolling players a jazz band and African drum players will also be taking part in the festivities and during the afternoon a demonstration of antique furniture restoration by highly skilled restorers will reveal some of the secrets of their trade.


As usual, the street’s antique dealers will be on hand to offer you a glass of wine, soft drinks, canapés as well as advice on their fabulous pieces for the serious collectors, browsers, the curious as well as the uninitiated, all will be given a friendly and hospitable welcome and remember, if a piece catches your eye, don’t be frightened to haggle over the price, it is perfectly acceptable and expected by all the dealers, after all, it is a major part of the fun of buying antiques knowing that you have brought something you love and secured the very best deal!

Finally, when the shops close the party continues at the 15th century Kings Arms pub in West Street where the charity draw will take place in the evening, The Kings Arms will also host a live music concert and jamming session throughout the evening rounding off a fabulous day.
